We’ve made them easy to understand, so you know exactly what to expect from us and what we expect from you.

1.0     The Techie Nesters Virtual Retirement Community (Neighbourhood Nest). Our Neighbourhood Nest is designed to help older adults age well. It’s rooted in the benefits of contributing and consuming, creating a sustainable way to live at home longer while enjoying the excitement and camaraderie of a community where kindness is the currency. Membership in the Nest at Techie Nesters starts with a servant’s heart. We define this as: A genuine desire to help others selflessly, including qualities such as empathy, humility, and compassion. Those with a servant's heart prioritize the well-being and needs of others, seeking to assist, uplift, and improve the lives around them. This disposition is often marked by a readiness to support and care for others.

1.1     At Techie Nesters, we have a well-defined Membership Process. Every Member is vetted and police checked to help create a trusted and safe environment. Therefore, not everyone who wants to be a Member can be a Member.

1.3     The following steps are part of the Membership Process:

1.4     Application: A Membership Application form must be filled out/received. It is here where potential Members are vetted in one-to-one conversations carried out in a comfortable setting such as a local community club or local church, or virtually. It’s a get to know one another chat – discover what life is like for you, what your home set-up is like, what areas you might like to help out in or get help in, and what you’re looking forward to the most as a Member of the Nest. During this process any remaining questions are addressed. A profile gets created and Membership Applications get entered into the Techie Nesters database.

1.5 Background Check: If our team determines we have a good fit with the Member Applicant, a Background Check is requested. This often takes place in the same session, with Techie Nesters helping to complete the online form for the Member Applicant. We conduct this background check only at the time of application. Once a member is accepted, it is their responsibility to inform Techie Nesters of any material changes in their circumstances that might impact their membership status.

1.6     Full Agreement Signed & Picture Provided: Once Members are approved, they must sign the Full Membership Agreement and provide a picture. This helps create a safer environment, allowing Members to ensure other Members are who they say they are.

1.7     ID: Members receive a branded Techie Nesters lanyard with their name and “Esther”. This is the name of the Techie Nesters sandpiper. This lanyard will be required to be worn when helping others in the Neighbourhood Nest and is part of your ID for access to our events. It is another safety measure we have in place at Techie Nesters.

1.8     Orientation: Members receive an orientation providing an overview of the Techie Nesters scope, history, and how life in the Nest works; what we do and do not do. General policies and procedures are explained and discussed. This includes rules for all Members and how to handle situations when interacting with other Members. Family Members are welcome and encouraged to be a part of this orientation. Special emphasis is placed on member security, and strict control of sensitive information.

1.7     Life in the Nest Begins. Every Member receives next steps and key dates, including the official Launch Party. Members can begin accessing the Compassion Concierge Service to unlock all kinds of goodness!

1.8     Reasonable Use Policy: At Techie Nesters, we enforce a Reasonable Use Policy to ensure fair access and utilization of our services by all members. This policy helps us identify and address instances where the usage of our services may exceed what we consider 'reasonable use.'

1.9     The Concept of Balance: Techie Nesters promotes a "Circle of Giving" philosophy, encouraging members to actively contribute to and benefit from the community. While it's expected that there will be fluctuations in how much you give versus receive, maintaining a balanced exchange is essential. This balance will be assessed and determined solely by Techie Nesters on an annual basis to ensure equitable service for all members.

2.0     Rules and Regulations: The Neighbourhood Nest also has clearly defined Rules and Regulations. They are outlined as follows:

a. Be a good “neighbour”, committed to a circle of giving community, where all Members are required to BOTH contribute and consume. Members who can’t contribute and only consume must have a vetted family member contribute on their behalf. Remember, examples of getting help and giving help can include errands, simple handyman tasks like changing a lightbulb, taking out garbage for someone, making a daily morning phone call, doing a house check for someone while they’re
away, sitting with someone to keep them company, or emergency pet care to name a few.

b. Techie Nesters is open Monday-Saturday, 9AM-7PM EST and is closed on Sundays.

c. A phone call to the Techie Nesters Compassion Concierge is made when help is desired. The Compassion Concierge will match a helper (another Member in the Nest) with the help desired and a time will be booked. Help is not on demand and will require scheduling.

d. Members of the Nest are to engage with other Members in a respectful manner and are to help with non-medical related needs only. Not all Members are Medically Capable to provide Services or CPR certified, and as such, this is NOT a Member requirement and can NOT be a Member expectation. Always call 911 in an emergency situation.

3.0     Prepaid Support Packages:

3.1     Prepaid Support Packages: We offer prepaid support packages that can be used to access technical assistance or services. These packages are non-refundable and cannot be transferred to another person. While they do not have an expiration date, they are not subject to a refund.

3.2     If an appointment is booked and you agree to the appointment and you do not attend (i.e.: no-show / unavailable) your allocation of time and monies paid to Techie Nesters will be used to reimburse the scheduled Advocate for their allocation of time regardless of your attendance.

3.3     If an appointment is booked but you require a re-schedule, 24 hours notice must be given so that an Advocate can be freed up to service another client. If you do not provide 24 hours-notice, your allocation of time and monies paid to Techie Nesters will be used to reimburse the scheduled Advocate for their allocation of time regardless of your attendance. Please also note that there is a maximum of two (2) reschedules permitted.

3.4     Advocates and Member Volunteers are allocated based on availability, type of call, equipment or service required and scope of discussion which will be confirmed at the time of your initial scheduling call. Similarly, there is a maximum of two (2) scope changes permitted.

4.0     Responsibility and Liability:

4.1     Disclaimer of Warranties: You understand that your use of this website, its content and any services available on or through this website is at your own risk. Techie Nesters’ technical services and support is provided to you on an “as is” and “as available” basis without any warranties or conditions of any kind express or implied. This does not affect any warranties or conditions that cannot be excluded by law.

4.2     Limitation of Liability: Except where such exclusions are prohibited by law, under no circumstances will Techie Nesters nor its directors, officers, employees, contractors, suppliers or successors be held liable for any negligence, damages of any kind, losses, or claims arising from the use of our services or any related activities.

5.0     Intellectual Property:

5.1     Ownership: All intellectual property rights, including trademarks, logos, and content, displayed on our website or provided as part of our services, belong to Techie Nesters. You may not use, reproduce, or distribute our intellectual property without our prior written consent.

6.0.     Modifications to the Terms:

6.1     Updates: We may update or modify these Terms of Service from time to time to reflect changes in our services or legal requirements. We will notify you of any material changes via email or through a notice on our website. By continuing to use our services after such changes are made, you agree to be bound by the updated Terms of Service.

7.0     Governing Law and Jurisdiction:

7.1     Applicable Law: These Terms of Service shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario, without regard to its conflict of laws principles.

7.2     Jurisdiction: Any disputes arising out of or related to these Terms of Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the Province of Ontario.

8.0     Application Security, Website Visits, and Device Safety

8.1     Application Level Security: Techie Nesters does not assume responsibility for the application-level security of customer-owned or licensed software. While we strive to provide secure technical assistance and support, it is important to understand that ensuring the security of your software applications is ultimately your responsibility.

8.2     Websites Visited by Members: Techie Nesters is not responsible for the content, security, or privacy practices of websites visited by our members. When accessing external websites or following links provided by us, please exercise caution and review the respective website’s terms of service and privacy policy.

8.3     Device Safety: We provide technical support services for devices and aim to assist you in resolving any issues or concerns. However, it is important to note that Techie Nesters is not a replacement for proper security software or safe use practices when using connected devices. We cannot be held responsible for any viruses, trojan attacks, or cyber fraud that may occur as a result of unsafe device usage or lack of appropriate security measures. Please remember to exercise caution and follow best practices when using your devices, accessing websites, or installing software. Regularly update your security software, maintain backups of important data, and be vigilant against potential cybersecurity threats. By utilizing our services, you acknowledge and accept that Techie Nesters is not liable for any security incidents, damages, or losses resulting from application-level security issues, website visits, or unsafe device practices.
